About this Event

If you work with young children up to eight years old as an early childhood educator or elementary school teacher in Tucson or nearby areas and you face difficult behaviors, you might be interested in taking part in a research opportunity at The University of Arizona called "Building Trauma-Sensitive Schools: A Trauma-Informed Teaching Training." Keep reading for more information.

My name is Courtney Acosta, and I am a doctoral candidate in the Department of Disability and Psychoeducational Studies at the University of Arizona. I am conducting a Ph.D. dissertation study focused on Trauma-Informed Training for Early Childhood Education teachers, and I am seeking participants dedicated to enhancing the well-being of young learners.

Study Overview:

The purpose of my research is to investigate the impact of a one-day Trauma-Informed Training intervention on the practices and perspectives of Early Childhood Education teachers. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of trauma-informed approaches in improving classroom environments, fostering resilience, and enhancing the overall educational experience for young children.

Why Your Participation Matters:

Your valuable insights and experiences as an Early Childhood Education teacher are essential to the success of this study. Your participation will contribute to advancing our understanding of trauma-informed practices in the classroom and help shape future educational initiatives and policies.

Participation Details:

· Must be 18 years or older.

· Must be currently employed at an early childcare facility or educational institution within Tucson or the surrounding areas.

· Must have been employed in current position for a minimum of six months.

· Duration: The training session will take approximately one day in-person with lunch provided.

· Location: The training will be held at the University of Arizona Student Unions on June 29, 2024 @ 8:00 AM (estimated end time ~5:00 PM). Details on the specific meeting room and parking will be sent out two weeks prior to the training.

· Assessments: Participation in this study will require completing pre-and post-training assessments consisting of questionnaires and standardized instruments. These assessments will be administered two weeks before the training, within the two weeks after the training, and at an eight-week follow-up. It will take up to 45 minutes of your time for each sitting. These assessments are crucial for measuring the impact of the Trauma-Informed Training.

Confidentiality: Your responses will remain confidential, and the primary researcher will protect your identity throughout the study.

What's In It for You:

As a token of our appreciation for your participation, you will receive a certificate of completion for the Trauma-Informed Training, which you can include in your professional development portfolio. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to learn valuable strategies that can be applied to your classroom to better support children who have experienced trauma. A complimentary lunch will be provided on-site on the day of the training.
