This exciting and unique Boatbuilding course combines Experimental Archeology with Traditional Boatbuilding to re-create Henry David Thoreau’s famed Dory “Musketaquid”, the small dory he built with his brother John in his book “A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers”. Students will be taking lines from a recently discovered model from the Peabody Essex Museum and compiling information contained in the book to build the Musketaquid, including designing, lofting, pattern making, framing, set-up, and lapstrake planking. No prior boat building or woodworking experience required – just a love of history, archeology and discovery.
