As temperatures rise and the world careens past its carbon emissions goals, proponents of “de-growth” present a compelling framework to refashion our economic life around “human flourishing and ecological stability, rather than around the constant accumulation of capital.” (Jason Hickel). Chris Whittaker--Fordham Law J.D. candidate and Washington Heights neighbor--presents an introduction to de-growth theory that invites everyone to critically examine the assumptions that underlie our economic life, introducing the concepts of planetary boundaries, the myth of decoupling growth from extraction, how debt drives environmental degradation, and how public money and public banking could provide a path to a post-growth society. Hosted by Fort Washington Collegiate Church. Part of NYC Climate Week. Free!RSVP on FB or on Eventbrite:
