About this Event
We know that vacancy control (VC) is needed to prevent even more people from slipping into homelessness. Vacancy control is real rent control that prevents massive hikes in rent between tenants - a practice that is proving to price so many out of the rental market, adding to an already dire housing crisis.
GVAT is committed to improving the lives of people in our communities by developing civic leaders and mobilising member organisations to demand better of our decision-makers.
With this event, we will develop an action plan through the summer and fall until the provincial election while providing an opportunity to learn how to plan strategically for maximum impact.
This follows a well-attended civic academy held in May where we aimed to educate the public about VC. At the end of that session, participants shared many ideas. Now, it’s time to get strategic about what we do next.
What you can expect:
- Learn and practise the foundational thinking that is critical to choosing sound strategy, including power analysis, sphere of influence and understanding current reality
- Ideate tactics and practise discerning which ones make most strategic use of strengths and opportunities
- Participate in decisions about what we’ll do, how and when
- Meet others that are keen to learn about strategic campaigning, and passionate about solutions to the housing crisis
We will send a more detailed agenda to RSVPed folks closer to the date. In the meantime, please send questions to [email protected].
Who can attend:
This event is open to the public and members of GVAT are especially encouraged to attend. You do not need to have attended the civic academy, nor understand the intricacies of VC, to attend this event. Come learn and plan with us!
