Practical tools to prevent gambling and alcohol harm in community sport.About this Event
Are you involved in a sporting club in the inner west?
Are you concerned about the role that gambling and alcohol plays in local sport?
Are you interested in funding partnerships that better align with your club’s values?
This sporting club forum will improve your club’s understanding of gambling and alcohol harm and help you transition towards healthier funding partnerships.
You will hear from speakers with lived experience of gambling harm, experts in gambling and alcohol harm prevention, and sporting club officials who have already taken steps to prevent gambling and alcohol harm at their clubs.
Health promotion organisations will be on hand to talk with you directly and provide resources to start the conversation at your own club. A light dinner will also be provided, with time to network with other clubs and service providers.
Community sports clubs are essential to health and wellbeing in local communities. They provide a space for people to connect, stay fit and healthy, and try new activities. However, when gambling and alcohol products and promotion is clearly visible in a club, it sends a powerful message about what is normal.
All sporting clubs need sustainable funding, and most club administrators want to pursue funding partnerships that align with their values. However, with all the pressures that come from running a club, it can be difficult to know where to start.
This forum is designed to provide:
- information about what gambling and alcohol harm can look like at your club.
- resources and ideas to pursue healthier sponsorships and funding opportunities.
- tools to have conversations in your club about gambling and alcohol harm.
This event is a collaboration between Maribyrnong City Council, Hobsons Bay City Council and the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation, with sponsorship from VicHealth.
