For the last 12 years, the Building Green Justice Forum has been an integral pillar bolstering Huston-Tillotson University’s environmental justice program. HT’s students, staff, facilty, and community have learned with and from some of the most thoughtful, engaged, and effective actors in the field. The Forum has enriched our university and inspired us to grow HT’s presence in the pursuit of environmental equity. By building on HT’s rich HBCU legacy of educational and social justice, the forum has allowed us to deepen and broaden our work in environmental justice.
This year, we reflect back and dream forward with a special lecture by BGJF co-founder and Director of Scientific and Governmental Relations at the Morton Arboretum Dr. Karen Magid, who will discuss how healthy trees advance environmental equity in communities and around the world. Her presentation, Branching Out: Bold Science for Tree Conservation and Climate Justice, will be followed by a response session where past BGJF presenters will share their reflections on the talk and facilitate group discussion. Please join us as we revisit, reconnect, and envision our environmental justice futures together.
Free and open to the public! Coffee, breakfast snacks, and lunch are provided. Vegan and gluten-free options will be available.
Location: Dickey-Lawless auditorium on the Huston-Tillotson campus.
Driving/parking directions: Please park in the guest parking lot on Chalmers avenue between 7th and 11 streets and enter campus via the pedestrian gate (this is the West entrance on the map below). The D-L building is on the southwest corner of campus. All campus visitors must check in and receive an ID badge.
