Building Confidence on the Sewing Machine We’re going to begin an important exercise
to help you build confidence and ease with your sewing machine.
Start by practicing on a plain color cotton or lining fabric—it’s light, easy to handle,
and you can even begin without threading the needle,
just to get used to the movement and rhythm of the machine.
Once you feel more comfortable, thread the needle and sew on the cotton or lining for real.
After that, try other types of fabrics to adapt your skills and
get familiar with different textures.
Here’s how it works:
Starting point: follow the arrow that marks where the stitching begins.
Stay on track: sew along the dotted line, aiming to keep your stitches straight.
Backstitch: at the points marked with bars to secure your seam neatly.
Repeat: practice on every line. The more you repeat, the steadier and more confident you’ll become.
Right now, perfection is not the goal.
This is about feeling comfortable with your machine
and discovering the joy in the motion of sewing.
Happy sewing!
