Building a Better Cambridge: A Social Innovation Day with Allia

The Social Innovation Day is an engaging and interactive event open to everyone who wants to make a positive difference in Cambridge.

Whether you live in, work in, or simply care about the city: this is your chance to share ideas, meet new people, and come up with creative solutions to some of the challenges we face as a community.

Together, we’ll explore big topics like:

• Climate Action: How can we lead the way in tackling the climate emergency and make Cambridge a greener city?
• Poverty and Inequality: What can we do to support those who need it most and build a fairer society?
• Affordable Housing: How can we help more people find safe, affordable homes and tackle homelessness?
• A Better Future for All: What steps can we take to make Cambridge a modern, inclusive, and sustainable place for everyone?

Throughout the day, you’ll join a team, get inspired by expert speakers, and use your unique skills and ideas to come up with solutions. No special experience is needed—just bring your curiosity and enthusiasm! Mentors and experts will be on hand to support you every step of the way.

• Community Members: If you care about Cambridge and want to make it a better place, this event is for you.
• Aspiring Changemakers: Thinking about starting a community project or social enterprise? This is a great way to get started.
• Established Organisations: Already working on social or environmental issues? Come along for fresh ideas, advice, and inspiration.
• Mentors & Supporters: Have experience to share? Join us to guide others and help bring new ideas to life.

You don’t need to have an idea or a team to take part—just come along, and we’ll help you connect with others on the day.

• Free Food: We’ll provide a light breakfast and lunch to keep you energised.
• Inclusive Atmosphere: No experience in social enterprise or business is needed—just come as you are!
• New Opportunities: Learn about other free programmes from Allia to support your journey, whether you’re exploring ideas or starting something new.
• Photo-Friendly Event: We’ll be taking photos and videos during the day. Let us know if you’d prefer not to be included.

Allia is a social enterprise that has been active in social and environmental issues and supporting impact ventures for 25 years. We pledge to help as many small businesses as we can to make substantial changes to their working practices and systems, through advice delivered by programmes and workshops, as well as within our own Future Business Centres.

There are various grants to voluntary and community organisations available from Cambridge City Council. The council’s Community Grant Fund supports local voluntary and community groups. It is aimed at helping fund projects which tackle social and/or economic inequality among Cambridge residents with the greatest need of support.
