(This will be an in person, outdoor action. MASKS required. We will start at The Bull at 12:30pm, then walk over to the NY Stock Exchange at 11 Wall Street by 1pm.)
We elected Biden to be the #ClimatePresident. Now it’s time for him to keep his promises to us.
Biden has the tools as president to prevent climate chaos, end fossil fuel racism, and improve well-being for millions of people.
The challenges we face as a country — COVID-19, systemic racism, economic inequality, and the climate crisis — are interlocking. They stem from an extractive, fossil-fueled economy that has polluted Black, Indigenous, Brown, and working-class communities for generations.
Here in NY, we continue to fight polluting fossil fuel projects including the proposed North Brooklyn Pipeline and the Astoria (QNS), Gowanus (BK), and Danskammer (Newburgh) fracked gas plants, among others.
We need Biden to take immediate executive action to transition the country from a destructive fossil-fueled economy that only works for super-rich CEOs to one that puts people's well-being first and prioritizes communities that have been harmed most by corporate greed.
With the stroke of a pen, Biden can:
? Ban new fossil fuel leases on public lands & waters
? Reject fossil fuel projects & enact a climate test
? Declare a National Climate Emergency
? Eliminate US fossil fuel subsidies
? Address cumulative pollution impacts
? Strengthen the federal environmental justice mandate
? Create a Just Transition Task Force
? Enshrine self-determination of Indigenous peoples
Our communities and planet can’t wait. Join New Yorkers for the National Day of Action on January 19 here in NYC. It’s time to #BuildBackFossilFree and to #BuildBackBIPOC.
