Guitar maestro Howlin’ Mat brings his Cigar Box Guitar workshop to Jamboree! Come along and build your own electric Cigar Box Guitar under his expert tutelage. No prior skill is required, and all materials and tools are provided.The Cigar Box Social is the brainchild of blues guitar maestro Howlin’ Mat. A nomadic solo blues artist, Mat has played everywhere from the Sahara to the North Pole, receiving credits from the likes of John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) and Mud Morganfield (son of Muddy Waters). Having been introduced to the Cigar Box Guitar very early in his playing career, he fell in love instantly, and it wasn’t long before he started to make his own. Coming from a teaching background, this naturally led to the occasional workshop. In 2023, the Cigar Box Social was born with the intention of introducing these amazing instruments to the wider population. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength. In this workshop you will learn about the origins of the Cigar Box Guitar, build your own electric CBG, and receive a demonstration of how to make a slide from an old wine bottle!
