BUET ACS-Zeiss Image CompetitionWho can participate:
• Undergraduate students who are doing research
• Graduate (master’s or doctoral) student researchers
• Researchers working in a public or private research center
Rules:
• Light microscopic and Electron microscopic images will be considered
• Raw images will be considered only. For post processed (like brightness adjustments, gamma adjustments, photoshop enhanced etc.), raw image should be available if requested
• AI generated images will not be considered
• Participant needs to be the sole owner of the image
• Image file size: Image file must not exceed 500MB in size, and should be sufficiently high resolution for web viewing
• Image format: *.jpg or *.png or *tiff
• All submissions should include a title of the image and a short description of each image. This text should be less than 60 words. Your entry should not have been submitted to earlier competitions held any micrograph/scientific imaging competitions.
• A maximum of 3 submissions is allowed per person (submit a new form for each)
• Submit your image through provided links
What to include in your submission:
1. Catchy Title: Maximum of 60 characters, including spaces
2. Plain-language description of the research:
3. 500 characters(max) including spaces
4. Describe what is seen in the image
5. Explain your research, and make the connection between the image and the research being carried out
6. The plain-language text is intended for a non-expert audience of scientifically curious adults
Competition details:
Submissions are expected to demonstrate technical excellence, creativity, and the ability to communicate scientific ideas or phenomena visually.
1. Category A (Light Microscopy):
This category is open to images captured using any light microscopy technique, including but not limited to fluorescence, confocal microscopy.
2. Category B (Electron Microscopy):
This category welcomes images obtained through electron microscopy techniques, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
Image Selection Process:
• A panel of judges from National Young Academy of Bangladesh (NYAB) members. Top three images will be selected from each category on the basis of obtained scores from judges
• Besides the jury judge another two images will be selected on the basis of popularity voting via social media platform termed as People’s Choice Award.
Evaluation criteria:
• Primary criterion: Visual quality of the image
• Aesthetics, evocative power, and ability to spark curiosity or a sense of wonder
• Secondary criterion: Illustration of the research
• Effectiveness in illustrating the research
• Clarity of the descriptive text
• From 2nd Nov – 8th Nov 11:59 PM shortlisted images will be shared in our official Facebook page for popular choice award. All the reactions will be counted in original post.
• A participant is eligible for only one prize.

Cash prize - Category A:
1st place 5,000 BDT
2nd place 3,000 BDT
3rd place 2,000 BDT
Cash prize - Category B:
1st place 5,000 BDT
2nd place 3,000 BDT
3rd place 2,000 BDT
2 People’s Choice Award Winner: 2,000 BDT each
• Participation certificates for all the shortlisted participants
• Prize money(Cash) and certificate for winners
