Buds and Spawn would like to welcome ye, whether wide-eyed or world-weary, to a very special evening with William D. Drake at The Dorothy Pax in Sheffield.To those in the know, Mr Drake’s songwriting credentials have never been in doubt. His contributions to Cardiacs (he played in the ‘classic lineup’ from ‘83 - ‘91), The Sea Nymphs, North Sea Radio Orchestra and five solo albums of quirky, psychedelic prog-pop, attest to the fact that he certainly knows how to write a decent tune. He’ll be performing solo this evening, singing songs written anything from the day-before-yesterday to forty years ago.
Fresh off the beautiful, balladry of new single 'The Flickering Shade', the kind-eyed keyboard virtuoso will conjure melodies to turn your bellies to jelly. You can expect a most delectable variety of sounds, from gentle to jagged, observational to philosophical. Bill truly does it all, and it's "impossible to listen to without a big smile on your face" (BBC's Mark Riley).
So join us on November 1st, for only £12 (£6 conc) where you'll also be treated to a wonky yet contagious DJ set from Regal Worm, the marvellously psychedelic alter ego of Jarrod Gosling, a member of Sheffield's musical royalty best known for his work with I Monster and Cobalt Chapel. Precious moments will collide!
All ages welcome - under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
Accessibility: The Dorothy Pax is a canalside bar which is reached by a 5 min walk from the nearest road (Furnival Rd), or a very short walk from the multistorey car park (disabled bays available) that has a pedestrian exit directly on to the quays. The pavement surface around Victoria Quays is cobbled and uneven. Inside, the bar has a small mezzanine / balcony area at ground level, with 10 steps down to reach the bar and the toilets (two large gender neutral cubicles).
