Come join us for a fun hike in historic Buddy Butts Park.
This area is a historical landmark used as a German POW camp during WWII. In 1943, prisoners and enlisted men were used as part of the labor force to construct the 200 acre Mississippi River Basin Model Waterways Experiment Station, a large-scale hydraulic model of the entire Mississippi River basin. The model was partiality operational in 1949 and completed in 1966. The site was abandoned in 1973 and is overgrown but still accessible by the public. An engineering group is working on restoring the site.
We will meet at the parking lot for the soccer fields. Bring a snack and something to drink. Along the way we will take a look at the MS River Model along with a smaller one built by POWs during World War 2.
Take Exit 36 (Springridge Road) from I-20 near Clinton, MS. Travel SOUTH on Springridge Road for 1.6 miles. Turn LEFT onto McRaven Road. Travel 0.3 miles and the park entrance is on the LEFT. Drive a short distance and take a right near the soccer fields. We will meet at the first parking lot at the fields.
