Sand Mandala Daily Viewing | Jan. 6 - 10 | 10:00am - 4:00pm
Witness the beautiful creation and ultimate dissolution of a beautiful and unique two-dimensional sand mandala. Requiring up to 125 hours in effort and completed by several monks at a time, the sand mandala represents the architectural layout of the entire celestial palace of a specific deity using colors made of powdered and dyed stone, sand, dust, flowers, and charcoal. Upon completion of the mandala, the monks will purposely dissolve this magnificent work of art (see Closing Ceremony below).
World Peace and the Unity of All Religions | Tuesday, Jan. 7 | 6:00pm
Experience the first of three selected teachings to help grow your consciousness and understanding of spiritual principle. Learn how to take individual responsibility for bringing about world peace, and how the responsibility is essential in creating positive change in our collective experience.
Lojong Mind Training | Wednesday, Jan. 8 | 6:00pm
In our second teaching, we’ll learn how our human experience of life begins in our mind. Understand how our bodies are driven by our thoughts, and why training the mind is truly the only way to move towards a happier and healthier life.
The Four Noble Truths | Thursday, Jan, 9 | 6:00pm
And finally, discover The Four Noble Truths that state that suffering exists, has a cause, has an end, and has a path to end it. Take in and learn how to apply this foundational Buddhist teaching.
Closing Ceremony & Sand Mandala Dissolution | Sunday, Jan. 12 | 11:30am
The Buddha's last words were "All things are impermanent, work out your salvation with diligence." In upholding the principle that all phenomena is transient, the monks will sweep up the mandala and place the sand in the lake to purify the surrounding environment.
