Poetry Contemplation as Dharma Practice
There are many pathways to presence and spiritual awakening. Poetry, mindful movement and the arts can help us to be more present and unearth fresh insights into our lived experience. The poet John Brehm notes, “Poetry brings us into living contact with the Dharma, it shows how the Dharma flows through our human experience, as poets work with the truth of things, the fundamental conditions of existence, the way things truly are.”
On this evening, we will do a guided meditation and will contemplate mindful poetry in the company of spiritual friends using the Dharma Contemplation guidelines developed by Gregory Kramer. This contemplative dialogue process is used to study Buddhist texts and has been a useful and insightful process for poetry contemplation among IMCC sangha members.
