This retreat day offers the opportunity to explore how the Buddha’s profound teachings (the Buddha Dharma) and Deep Ecology can help us realise our interconnection to the planet – this can be a support for personal sustainability as well as our shared work towards the healing of the Planet. And we will investigate how the Dharma and Deep Ecology work can help create the radical shift in consciousness needed in these times of planetary threat.
Both the Buddha Dharma and Deep Ecology express the deep understanding we can have within our own being of our non-separation from all things. This can transform us and the way that we relate to each other and to the natural world.In remembering this interconnection we have the opportunity to feel whole once more. And this can reveal joy, wonder and our innate capacity for resilience and compassionate action.
Join Deep Ecology pioneer, John Seed, and Insight Dharma teacher, Suzie Brown, in the beautiful natural surrounds of Narara Ecovillage for this special day of sitting, walking and movement meditation, Dharma inquiry, Deep Ecology processes and connection in a like-minded community. He has co-led this workshop over the years with Susan Murphy Roshi and several insight meditation teachers.
John Seed is a world-renowned deep ecology teacher, writer and environmental activist. He founded the Rainforest Information Centre and has dedicated his life to the protection of rainforests and their biodiversity since 1979. In 1995 he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) by the Australian Government for services to conservation and the environment. John lives at the Narara Ecovillage.
Suzie Brown teaches Insight (Western Buddhist) Meditation and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and teaches courses in Climate Resilience. She has been an environmental activist for over 20 years. She founded Parents for Climate in 2019, was the founding CEO, and is now a Board Director. She lives at the Narara Ecovillage. This workshop is part of a weekend festival called BEFORE THE TIDE .This will be the Central Coast’s first community-led festival bridging climate action, intentional living, and alternative economies.
