Sir Reginald Masters Dural (Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. or “Sir Reg”) is the son of Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural, Jr., an accordionist who founded the Grammy Award-winning Ils Sont Parti Band and became one of the few zydeco artists to achieve mainstream success. Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. has followed in his father’s footsteps and now leads the Ils Sont Parti Band as their accordion frontman. Created by black musicians in rural southwest Louisiana in the early 1800s, zydeco attests to the resilience and vitality of the Creole community. Listen for hints of African, French, Spanish, Caribbean, and indigenous American traditions in this musical fusion. This event is part of our American Tobacco series.
