About this Event
In Troy, players will be reliving the Trojan War, representing various figures from the Greek or Trojan Armies. Players take on one of three roles which will dictate how they interact with the game. The game concludes when either the Greek legionnaires pierce the Trojan Walls and conquer the city, or Trojan Forces repel the Greeks from their city.
The player roles are as follows:
The Noble will handle the logistical elements of the army by navigating prickly political situations, directing the war effort, and allocating resources for the war (or for your own personal profit). Play this role if you enjoy resource management and making big thematic decisions.
The Hero will be fighting toe-to-toe on the battlefield, conquering land and claiming its resources, slaying monsters, and doing their best to bring glory to themselves and victory to their Army. Play this role of you like wargaming and difficult tactical decisions.
The Priest is a direct line to the gods. They are the only ones who can make offerings to the gods or speak to them directly. Just remember, the gods will always be able to hear you, but they might not always listen. Play this role if you like roleplaying and being the social face.
Your role and your specific team will also put you in the shoes of a mythological figure. Play as Hector of the Trojans or Achilles of the Myrmidons! You are encouraged to roleplay your character as much as you would like, but you do not have to. Just do not get too carried away with it. No one is restricted based on gender, race or any other variation.
Further, the Control team running this game are not passive. Many represent the Greek gods, each with amazing powers which can swing the tide of war. Make sure to get them on your side, or at the very least, don't make yourself an enemy of the gods.
Finally, please keep in mind that this is a tactical game. Unlike Watch the Skies! or other Megagames you may have seen, Troy has has a stricter focus on its strategy elements. There is a clearly defined win condition in this game. There will be no creation of random rules and little modification of what is laid down in the book. You must be prepared to read the rules in their entirety if you register. The gods, while helpful or hurtful, will not be playing the game for you. You are in charge of your own destiny, and if you make an error in movement, a wrong deal, or bet on the wrong god, it is your fault alone. Turns are 30 minutes long and there will be a break every 4 turns (including one for dinner). Check the ticket information for specifics on location and time.
With that said, we could not be more excited to present Troy to you! We hope that you will have as much fun playing it as we did designing it.
Role-specific playbooks AND general rules will be sent out closer to the event.
You can register by yourself or in a group of up to 3 people! Please do not feel discouraged if you are solo, we will connect you with your teammates via email after your team fills up!
If you want to see a megagame played before, please watch Shut Up & Sit Down's Watch the Skies! game here*:
*Please note that this game is not necessarily representative of Troy, which will be far more strategic, and feature far fewer brits.
