Bruce Cockburn, the legendary Canadian singer-songwriter, returns with O Sun O Moon, a collection that showcases his signature lyrical depth and exceptional guitar work. Known for unforgettable lines like “gotta kick at the darkness ’til it bleeds daylight,” Cockburn continues to blend poetry, social reflection, and spiritual insight with the mastery fans have celebrated for decades. Nearing his 78th birthday, he proves he’s still evolving, offering new songs as powerful and vibrant as any in his storied career.
Recorded in Nashville with longtime producer Colin Linden, O Sun O Moon embraces a warm, stripped-down clarity. While Cockburn has long confronted political, environmental, and human-rights issues in his music, these songs lean more toward reflection and spirituality—looking back, taking stock, and meeting the horizon with both grace and grit. From the driving urgency of “On a Roll” to the cautionary “To Keep the World We Know,” his voice remains both timeless and unmistakably present.
The album’s heart lies in its rich musical textures and vivid storytelling. Gentle jazz sways, folky drones, stirring strings, and gospel harmonies shape songs inspired in part by time spent with family in Maui—where moments of joy, loss, and surreal imagination all found their way into his writing. Standout collaborators include Shawn Colvin, Allison Russell, Sarah Jarosz, and the McCrary Sisters, whose radiant vocals lift the title track into something both heavenly and celebratory.
With more than 50 years of artistry, 13 Juno Awards, and a place in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, Bruce Cockburn remains a creative force unwilling to repeat himself. O Sun O Moon, his 38th studio album, stands as a testament to that restless spirit—an artist still pushing boundaries, still searching, and still delivering music that resonates with profound humanity.
