Gift wrapping in Nov? Brown Santa provides gifts to over 10,000 local kids each holiday season, so these workshop elves gotta start early :) This will be my 5th year there and I'm happy to bring others too!
Impact: The program runs on volunteers for gift wrapping, sorting, and packing. Each child receives 2 new wrapped toys, a puzzle, 2-3 books, and a stuffed animal. Each family receives a family gift like a boardgame, box of food, and gift card for food. Many of these families are facing hardship due to disasters, displacement, or foster care situations. It’s called “Brown Santa” after the brown uniforms the deputies wear.
What we’ll do: You’ll get a family sheet with kids’ ages, pick out appropriate toys, and wrap the gifts. If the floor is busy with other needs, we may jump to warehouse tasks like toy or book sorting.
Logistics: The warehouse this year is out on the East Side. Please arrive a few minutes early for a quick orientation.
Wear/bring: Whatever is comfortable, usually they sell some snacks/popcorn/water. Optional: a new unwrapped toy to donate (extra need for ages 8–14).
If you like to add flair, bring ribbon or stickers—some years supplies run low.
Afterwards: Welcome to continue to socialize over food/drinks at Central Machine Works down the street.
