Join Brown Girls Climb at Staunton State Park for Anchor Building and Cleaning on Sunday, September 22nd, 8:00 AM-2:30 PM!
This educational clinic will cover the basics of sport climbing anchors, equipment, and cleaning. We will begin with ground school and progress to guided practice under instructor supervision.
This clinic is open to Women and Non-Binary Folks of the Global Majority climbers of all ability levels who want to learn about the sport and network in an inclusive setting. Knowledge of top rope belaying and tying in using a figure-8 follow through knot is recommended. We will work on skills to help enhance your climbing and technical education, while creating a supportive space and building a strong community. 🧗🏾♀️⭐

Event Details
- BGC meet-ups and events are women-centered spaces open to women and non-binary folks of the global majority. The space will be facilitated by women of color and park staff.
- Suggested minimum age: All minors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
- We encourage you to coordinate transportation with other attendees. We will send a group email prior to the event where you can connect to arrange carpooling if you like.
Meeting Location: Staunton State Park, 12102 S Elk Creek Rd, Pine, CO 80470.
Entrance Fees: Colorado Parks and Wildlife will be waiving the entrance fees for participants.
Participant Confirmation and Waitlist: After completing Eventbrite registration, you will receive an email with either details of the event or a waitlist notification. BGC will send out an email with additional event details and to confirm your attendance.
If your availability changes, we urge you to cancel your Eventbrite registration as soon as possible to accommodate people from our waitlist. We provide our clinics free of charge and have very limited capacity. We want to ensure we can continue supporting the community with quality, free/low-cost technical education.
Gear: Staunton State Park can provide climbing gear such as harness, helmet, and shoes. Please confirm your gear needs by clicking on the Gear Needs form provided in the Eventbrite confirmation message.
Itinerary
- 7:45 AM: Participants arrive.
- 8:00-8:30 AM: Check-in and intros.
- 8:30-9:00 AM: Hike to climbing area. It is about a 35-minute, 1.1 mile hike with approximately 394 feet of elevation gain from the trailhead in a high elevation area around 8,000 feet on a well-established trail with some exposed roots and higher steps toward the end.
- 9:00am-12:00pm: Instruction.
- 12:00-12:30pm: Lunch. Everyone is responsible for their own lunch.
- 12:30pm-2:00pm: Guided practice.
- 2:00-2:30pm: Hike out.

- Closed toed shoes
- Comfortable clothing for outdoor activities
- Extra layers for the elements
- Water, snacks, and lunch
- Sunscreen
- Backpack
- Personal climbing gear: helmet, climbing shoes, harness, chalk and chalk bag, and any anchor building material that you may have. Personal equipment not required. If you do bring personal gear, make sure it is clearly marked.
