About this Event
Get RED CARPET ready because Summer reading for kids is getting better and this fun, literacy event is all about the kids!
Literacy is more than reading words on a page; it is the ability to understand and use language to communicate in everyday life. Literacy is in everything we do and we have fun, engaging activities to show it! From kid-friendly red-carpet interviews, face painting, Virtual Reality, 360 photobooths, and STEM activities, to readings of books by authors, this event will set the tone for holistically supporting childhood literacy.
The organizer, Dr. Pamela Gurley, is the author of the Brown Girl and Brown Boy multilingual children's series. By joining forces with other authors and using their collective voices, they provide an inclusive landscape for parents to fill their children's rooms with inspiring stories from characters that look like them.
Literacy is important and what better way to contribute to summer reading than having diverse and inclusive books to read. As Dr. Gurley says, “Representation is not just about color. It is also about culturally setting a standard of excellence for our children.”
