About this Event
Set in 1940s Los Angeles, Brown Broadway immerses audiences in the heart of Central Avenue, a vibrant, complicated mecca where artists of color from across the world migrated to pursue a spotlight they were denied elsewhere. Over time, this thriving scene earned the nickname “Brown Broadway” a powerful counterpoint to New York’s Great White Way, which lit up with marquee lights but too often left Black and Brown artists in the shadows.
Now, through a condensed 70-minute experience filled with live music, intimate storytelling, and searing emotion, Brown Broadway on Central Avenue brings this overlooked cultural legacy roaring back to life.
The Story: A jazzman with a haunted past. Two women caught in the rhythm of ambition, jealousy, and longing. A city teetering between promise and peril.
The Cast: Featuring Grammy winners, Broadway veterans from Wicked, The Color Purple, and Chicago, as well as NAACP Image Award-winning talent, this show delivers world-class performances in an intimate, immersive setting.
The Music: A rich blend of jazz, swing, and soul underscores every moment , from breakout numbers like “I Know How It Ends” performed by Grammy Winner Susan Carol to the haunting duet “Never My Name”.
The Experience: This is not just a show. It’s a reclamation. A tribute. A heartbeat of history wrapped in fierce entertainment.
