About this Event
In conjunction with the exhibition “Treasures of NOAA’s Ark”, “Sammy” Paul Orlando, Superintendent, Mallows Bay-Potomac River NMS, will talk about the sanctuary’s infamous “ghost fleet.” The sanctuary is a maritime heritage site that commemorates the Ghost Fleet – the remains of more than 100 wooden vessels built as part of US engagement in WWI.
Sammy has been with NOAA since 1983 and with NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries since 2002. He is co-located with NOAA’s Chesapeake Bay Office in Annapolis MD where he worked with a diverse network of communities throughout the Chesapeake region to bring about the designation of Mallows Bay-Potomac River National Marine Sanctuary in 2019. Now as Sanctuary Superintendent he works to expand awareness, interpretation and stewardship of this area’s people, culture, and heritage dating back thousands of years.
This pre-recorded Facebook Premier program will be broadcast on the page at noon on August 18. If anyone has any problems accessing the museum's Facebook page, or if you have a question for the speaker, please send an email to [email protected]
