About this Event

May 4, 12 to 3 PM

Join Repair the World New York and East New York Farms for a cleanup and tree care project at UCC Youth Farm from 12 to 3 PM for the 13th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep. This is a rain or shine event.

Volunteers will meet at UCC Youth Farm, 620 Schenck Ave, Brooklyn. There is a gate that leads to an outdoor kitchen and picnic table area. We will meet here then head out. There is only street parking, no parking lots. The 3 subway stop at Van Siclen is a 2 min walk away from the meeting place, and we will be close to the 3 line during the whole event.

Please bring clothes that you are willing to get dirty and a (full reusable) water bottle. We will supply gloves and tools necessary for this project. We also recommend that Sweep volunteers bring a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent and hand sanitizer.

There is a bathroom next door in the community center that participants can use. The sidewalks are uneven and there is normally a lot of walking and bending, but if an interested volunteer has accessibility requirements they should get in touch with the Sweep leader who will work something out.

This site is suitable for elementary-aged children with adult supervision.

Questions? Contact Riverkeeper at [email protected] or Sweep leader Mel Shaiman at [email protected] or call Mel at 631-413-0390.

*IMPORTANT! To ensure the safety of volunteers, Sweep Site Leaders, professional staff, and our communities, we ask that volunteers adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Volunteers are required to pre-register for Sweep.
  • Volunteers should not participate if they have ANY signs of illness or if they have potentially been exposed to COVID-19.

Over the last 12 years, Sweep leaders have completed 1,199 service projects, bringing together thousands of volunteers from NYC to the Adirondacks to clean up 355 tons of debris, and plant or maintain 7,130 native plants. This incredible effort is made possible by the generosity of our members, sponsors, and donors. If you would like to support the continued growth of the Riverkeeper Sweep, please consider making a donation. Contributions of any amount are meaningful.
