FAQ's
Q: What’s a clothing swap?
A: a swap is a gathering where people bring gently used clothes they no longer have use for and exchange them with other clothes attendees bring. It’s a very fun, sustainable way to refresh your wardrobe without spending money and helps reduce waste and combat fast fashion!
Q: What should I bring?
A: Gently used clothes from your closest that someone else would have used for. Don’t bring underwear, bras, socks, or any items that are damaged or stained. Pretty please keep the amount of clothing you bring to under 20 items.
Q: How does it work?
A: Lay your clothes on an open spot on a blanket or tarp and start browsing. This is not a swap with one-for-one trades or bartering. Please only bring clothes, accessories, and shoes in good, wearable condition. No holes, stains, or damage and no underwear and socks, yuck!
Q: Where in McCarren will the swap be?
A: The swap will be on the fields south of the parkhouse, Gilroy field! Look for a table and chairs with a bunch of tarps laid out nearby.
Q: What type of clothing will be there?
A: Totally depends on what people bring! We are open and encourage people to bring clothes of all size, genders, and season but we won’t know whats there till the day of!
Q: Is the clothing organized?
A: We don’t organize the clothes because it’s too challenging as people arrive to organize the clothes as they drop them off. Makes for fun treasure hunting.
Q: Do we need to bring our own tarps or blankets?
A: We will have tarps and blankets out for clothes. We accept tarps and blankets as donations because they usually get pretty dirty.
Q: Is this a free event?
A: Totally free! Unheard of in this city but it’s why we love doing it. Bring stuff and take stuff, entirely for free. It’s awesome.
Q: Do you have a permit to do this?
A: Yes! We have a permit through NYC Parks department
Q: Where's the closest subway stop?
A: Bedford Ave L or Nassau Ave G!
Q: Who are you the organizers? Why are you doing this?
I'm LizaBanks, I sell vintage part-time and I helped organize the happy daze clothing swaps in Washington, D.C. for two years! I’m passionate about fighting fast fashion and the plague of consumerism. I love thrifting and promoting easy, accessible ways to reduce waste. My friend and fellow vintage reseller, Emily Kennedy are excited to bring the swap to NYC and see what the future holds for the Brooklyn Clothing Swap!
