The Brooklyn Caribbean Literary Festival (BCLF) is building a bridge for Caribbean stories. As an organization devoted to celebrating Caribbean people and storytellers for their infectious and highly influential culture, it values the act of heritage conservation and storytelling. While BCLF aims to amplify the excluded stories of Caribbean people who have long contributed to and built the diverse heritage of the wider North American diaspora, it also focuses on expanding knowledge of the source to which their consciousness must be credited. Rastafari is one such movement. Birthed in Jamaica it has become a universal symbol of liberation and spirituality. Greenlight is honored to partner with BCLF and Akashic Books to host author Bill Howell presenting Pinnacle: The Lost Paradise of Rasta, a fascinating first-person origin story of Rastafari ideology, culture, and philosophy, capturing a crucial and little-known chapter in Jamaican history. This book provides a crucial and highly informed new perspective on the Rastafari subculture that Bob Marley would later help to spread across the globe. The volume includes photographs and original documents related to Pinnacle. Bill discusses his work with Roland Watson-Grant, along with a reading and book signing.
