With UK comedy's largest cash prize of £10,001 at stake, hundreds of stand-up comedians have applied to enter the inaugural British Comedian Of The Year Competition with only the very best making it through to the heats around the country. Unlike most stand-up competitions which are for new acts only, this one is open to everyone ranging from comedians who have appeared on Live At The Apollo to budding upstarts hoping to cause a 'giant-killing' as they go head-to head with their more experienced counterparts.Each heat sees nine comedians performing their best ten minute set with a panel of expert judges deciding their fate alongside the audience themselves, whose vote counts for 50% of the total score. The top two acts qualify for the semi-finals when they battle it out once more for a place in the Grand Final at London's famous Comedy Store on Weds 24 November.
