About This Course
This course will give you a chance to produce art inspired by the handling collection at the Great North Museum: Hancock. Drawing from taxidermy is a perfect opportunity to look closely at the UK’s fantastic wildlife, and showcase it through art. The collection includes Fox, Badger, Hedgehog, Weasel and many more!
Whether it’s to sketch an animal in detail or just to have a go at something new, all levels are welcome. Materials will be provided for but please do bring your own sketchbooks and resources if you’d prefer.
The museum is located in Newcastle’s city centre, with close links to Haymarket Bus Interchange and Metro stations. For our lunch break, you are more than welcome to either bring a packed lunch, use the museum’s cafe or head out to a nearby shop.
About The Tutor
Amber Tatman studied at Hull School of Art and Design, with a special interest in fine art and illustration. She has made art commissions ranging from pet portraits to pump clip designs and led rabbit and guinea pig drawing sessions at Ouseburn Farm last Summer. Amber loves combining her passion for nature and art by sketching wildlife and recording walks through nature journaling. She is currently a Nature Ranger at NHSN, working on our project Gosforth’s Wild Web, and loves bringing creative elements into her work.
