Klave Latin Band presents a celebration of the legendary Cuban ensemble Buena Vista Social Club that promises to transport you to the streets of Havana!
Featuring:
Jorge Chaviano, guitars and vocals
Tricia Edwards, piano and keyboard
Raul Gomez Tabera, percussion
Mario Ochoa, bass
Una Noche en la Habana means "A night in Havana". This quartet was formed to fulfill a desire to explore the rich musical tradition of pre-revolutionary Cuba and artists such as Compay Segundo, Ruben Gonzalez, and Ibrahim Ferrer. This musical tradition gained widespread public recognition and popularity after the Buena Vista Social Club album and film of the mid-1990’s. In better days, both for the world and for the country of Cuba, one could wander the streets of Havana and hear the sounds of this music floating from bars and cafes throughout the city.
Most members of the quartet grew up singing and playing this music, giving it deep personal significance. This quartet brings to each performance an exciting combination of beautiful ballads, traditional salsa, high-energy dance rhythms, improvisation, and plenty of audience interaction.

About the Artists
Jorge Chaviano was born in Havana, Cuba. He completed studies at the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory, after which he spent 10 years touring Europe and Asia with the Cuban a cappella group Vocal Sampling. Since re-locating to Calgary in 2008, he has continued to perform as soloist and in duo with his partner Yoanna Mesa, and with many local groups such as Klave Latin Band, Distrito Salsa, Bomba, Amigos del Sabor, and Salsanealo, as well as maintaining a busy teaching schedule.
Tricia Edwards musical journey has taken many diverse paths. With formative years spent training and performing in the classical realm, to more recent years playing in the jazz idiom, to her current passion in exploring the world of latin music, Tricia seeks to incorporate all of these languages into her musical expression. She earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in classical piano performance from the University of Alberta, with summer studies at the Banff Centre and Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Tricia is now based in Calgary, working as a solo artist, as leader of her own jazz trio/quartet, as a classical collaborative pianist and as the bandleader of the salsa band “Klave.”
Raul Gomez Tabera is a native of Matanzas, Cuba. He is now based out of Calgary, Alberta. Raul is a sought-after performer, teacher and accompanist across Canada. He is regularly invited to perform of a wide variety of styles namely Latin, Jazz, and Funk, as well as African, Blues and Folk. Raul is highly engaged as accompanist for dance classes around Calgary, including The School of Decidedly Jazz and the University of Calgary, for contemporary, Jazz, West African and Afro Cuban.
Mario Ochoa has been playing music for many years, starting at the age of 8 when he started to learn a Venezuelan type of guitar called the "cuatro" (four strings), with his first experience being playing in a local ensemble playing traditional Venezuelan music. At the age of 10 he started to learn bass guitar and this instrument became his main focus in music. For about 15 years Mario was fully involved in music playing for the most famous Venezuelan country music players and also other genres of Venezuelan music. Mario moved to Canada with his family in 2004 and has been involved with the local musical scene playing with many local groups and international artists.
