Bridging the Gap: Lessons Learned from Capital Grantmaking and Cross-Sector Collaboration in Baltimore
Need more space to serve the community? Want to own your own facility? Nonprofit and community organizations often find themselves thinking about how their mission can be stronger, more impactful, and also address community needs through the aquisition and redevelopment of property. In some Baltimore neighborhoods, the opportunity for reinvestment is ripe but the process of redevelopment is full of challenges and unexpected issues. Community voice, property acquisition, building and marketing conditions, finding/managing contractors and navigating city processes can be full of perilous steps that cost time and money. Raising funds for the project and your organization at the same time is also challenging, stretching relationships and staff capacities.
Join us as we review findings of a new report led by the Middendorf Foundation and the Morehead-Cain Civic Collaboration entitled "Bridging the Gap: Lessons Learned from Capital Grantmaking and Cross-Sector Collaboration in Baltimore" An overview of this report will be provided while a group of veteran development and philanthropic leaders share how they have navigated reinvestment projects guidance, lessons learned, and insights on advancing capital projects and reviewing funding requests.
