Mumbai is currently hosting 18th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA). Students from more than 60 countries from all six inhabited continents are participating in this grand event. But what exactly is an Olympiad? What happens in an Olympiad? Who participates in it and what do they get out of it? What kind of questions are asked in an Olympiad? How has been Indian Involvement in Olympiad so far? Let’s discuss all these (and other questions those come to your mind).About the speaker: Prof. Aniket Sule is the president of International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) since 2023. He served as the general secretary of the IOAA between 2017-2022. He has been participating in IOAA prior to that as the leader of the Indian team. He is a faculty member at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE-TIFR) since 2007, where he is engaged in research in Astronomy and Mathematics Education at high school level.
