Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, International Day of Peace represents a globally shared day for all humanity to commit to building a culture of peace in communities around the world. The Vermont Council on World Affairs is excited to once again celebrate International Day of Peace with programming focused on this important topic.

As the world grapples with deepening polarization, misinformation, and shifting global power dynamics, the ability to engage in meaningful, respectful dialogue is more critical than ever. The Vermont Council on World Affairs invites you to join us on Wednesday, September 24th, for Bridging Divides: Uniting Voices for Peace.

Through thought-provoking discussions, expert insights, and collaborative conversations, this event will examine the evolving challenges to peace and stability, from the impact of misinformation and declining U.S. engagement in global development to the ongoing fight for a more peaceful world. Featuring distinguished speakers and leaders in peacebuilding, diplomacy, and human rights, the summit will equip attendees with tools to bridge divides - both locally and globally.

Each year at our International Day of Peace event we honor an individual who, in VCWA's view, embodies the qualities inherent in promoting international understanding and building ties between the US and the world with our Person of the Year Award.
