The play “on the back of the photograph, lower left corner, lies everything i can’t forget about my mother” is the centrepiece of “Bridges" - our project which explores the Romanian exodus that took place in the early 90s and unpacks its consequences by rekindling the feeling of belonging and countering the longing we all feel.

Synopsis:
Immediately after the 1989 revolution, many Romanians chose not to wait and see what would become of their country. They needed distance. They uprooted themselves and settled in other lands, seeking more than what Communism couldn’t offer.
Now, 35 years later, while living conditions in Romania have improved, a different absence lingers. The absence of our people that have not yet returned. These Romanians send money home, vote, and don’t forget to call back home, but the lack of their presence left marks in today’s Romania. This performance is a participatory experience that tells the story of those whom are missed — their searches, joys, pains, and their distance. It is a story that can only be fully told with the presence of these people on stage. A story of an untranslatable word that Romanians hold in their hearts. A story about everything we cannot forget.
