About Phonetic Spit:

Phonetic Spit is dedicated to creating brave spaces for young & emerging adults to find, develop, and publicly present their voices. Our vision is to create a world where every young person is socially, emotionally, culturally, and academically literate and capable of expressing their authentic voices in a multitude of spaces.

Through the intersections of literary arts, spoken word, poetry, and hip hop we've been transforming the lives of young people since 2011. Our programs aim to provide young people with a broad and interconnected understanding of the human experience. Each workshop and community event we facilitate is designed to encourage young people to be brave enough to be themselves, become themselves, and evolve themselves through community based arts and education programming. We've impacted the lives of over 50,000 young people since our inception. We operate online, in classrooms, at shelters, in group homes, juvenile detention centers, and in community spaces. We established our non-profit status in 2016.

We recognize that by helping young people develop their skills as writers and public speakers we are equipping them with a sense of work readiness that will assist their transitions to college and into the workforce. Furthermore, by providing young people critical artistic outlets and toolsets, we are offering them a means to cope, assess, evaluate, express, and essentially transcend adversity and difficulty.
