On popular demand, we, at Red House are redoing this workshop! Inspired by British-born Indian architect, Laurie Baker, who was renowned for his initiatives in cost-effective energy-efficient architecture and designs that maximised space, ventilation and light, this workshop will teach participants the lime cycle, types, advantages over cement, and hands-on training in slaking and application. Unlike cement, lime mortar is breathable, flexible, and self-healing, making it ideal for both heritage restoration and sustainable modern construction. It regulates moisture, prevents cracks, and reduces environmental impact by reabsorbing carbon dioxide during curing. Through practical training in slaking and application, you’ll gain the skills to work with this versatile, eco-friendly mortar—perfect for building structures that are both durable and environmentally responsible The workshop will be conducted by Arjun Shivaji Jain, Director of Red House, and former Young Companions’ Representative of John Ruskin’s Guild of St George.
