Grammy nominated bassist & composer Brian Bromberg and his acoustic Trio will return to Vibrato with Bromberg's latest project, LAFARO – a tribute to the legendary, groundbreaking jazz bassist, Scott LaFaro and the music of the Bill Evans Trio.
Scott LaFaro joined the Bill Evans Trio in 1959 and for the next two years broke new ground on the instrument, developing a counter-melodic style of accompaniment (rather than playing traditional walking basslines), and his virtuosity as a soloist was unmatched by any of his contemporaries. Evans, LaFaro & drummer Paul Motian were 3 equal voices, with one singular musical idea. LaFaro died tragically in an automobile accident on July 5, 1961 at the tender age of 25. Bromberg’s latest release is a heartfelt homage to the legendary bassist and includes swinging interpretations showcasing his own considerable skills as a melodic improviser and unparalleled timekeeper on the upright bass accompanied by Tom Zink on piano and Charles Roggiero on drums.
Brian Bromberg is considered to be one of the world’s most groundbreaking and diverse bassists of our time, pushing the barriers of the acoustic and electric bass to their limits. Commonly using as many as 10 or more basses on his recordings, using different tunings, string configurations, acoustic basses, electric basses, piccolo basses etc… Brian has taken the bass and truly turned it into a vehicle for him to make music, write melodies, and be the lead melodic voice as well as the rhythmic foundation of the music. The bass has become an extension of the music inside him! Brian is also known as an in-demand L.A. session musician and valued sideman to everyone from Stan Getz to Dave Grusin, Billy Cobham, Michael Bublé, Horace Silver, and countless others.
