About this Event
Experience a rare encounter with Japanese tea culture.
Matcha Kōbō is honoured to host Yuki Okamoto, 10th-generation head of the Hosokawa Onryu & Mishoryu school, on his first visit to Australia. Over two days only, he will lead a series of intimate tea ceremony sessions in Melbourne — bringing the philosophy, precision, and delicate ritual of Uji matcha to life.
What’s included:
- Taste two ceremonial-grade Uji matcha, freshly whisked for you
- Hands-on: learn to whisk matcha properly with a bamboo chasen
- Introduction to tea ceremony etiquette & philosophy — direct from a Japanese tea master
- (Optional) Brew and savour gyokuro, one of Japan’s most refined teas
- Paired with a selection of handmade Japanese sweets, crafted in-house
- Take home a Matcha Kit Set (valued at $68) to continue the ritual
This is more than a tasting — it’s a cultural immersion. A chance to sit with a Japanese tea master, learn the craft, and experience the heritage of Uji matcha in its truest form. Seats limited to 15 per session.
