Get ready to be transported to the sun-soaked landscapes and vibrant culture of Spain with the Brevard Philharmonic’s exhilarating concert, España!, on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at 3:00 PM. This unforgettable afternoon will take place in the stunning Porter Center at Brevard College and features a program bursting with passion, color, and brilliance.
The concert highlights three composers—Emmanuel Chabrier, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, and Édouard Lalo—each offering their own unique and captivating interpretation of Spain’s rich musical heritage. Opening the program is Chabrier’s lively España, a joyful and exuberant tone poem inspired by the composer’s travels through Spain. Filled with infectious rhythms and shimmering orchestral textures, it sets the stage for a program that celebrates the spirit and energy of Spanish culture.
Next is Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol, a virtuosic showcase of the orchestra’s technical brilliance and expressive range. This dazzling work, based on Spanish folk melodies, is full of vibrant color, dynamic contrasts, and thrilling passages for nearly every section of the orchestra. The Capriccio Espagnol is not only a feast for the ears but also a shining example of Rimsky-Korsakov’s mastery of orchestration.
The concert’s centerpiece is Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole, featuring the extraordinary SooBeen Lee, a brilliant young violinist who has been lauded for her remarkable artistry and technical command.
