About this Event
This relaxing 2.5 hour soap class takes place in Herndon, Virginia and is perfect for individuals interested in learning how to create natural and aromatic bars without the use of synthetic fragrances, colors and additives. You’ll be guided by Brenda Brown, an experienced artisan soap maker specialized in creating soaps using natural herbs, florals, oils and clays.
You’ll learn how to properly and safely make and scent soap containing delicate essential oils using the cold-process soap-making method. Cold-process is a traditional method of making soap that involves combining a strong base with fatty acids leading to a neutralization reaction called saponification, without the addition of heat.
Soap-making is not only an art and science, but can also be a therapeutic process. Our soap making classes are held with a maximum of 3 makers at a time. Their intimate size ensures that you’ll grasp all the informational steps at your own pace, in a relaxed environment and with room to connect with like-minded makers!

WHAT YOU’LL BE LEARNING
- How to select and blend the best essential oils for soap-making.
- Tips on anchoring delicate essential oils to ensure fragrant bars.
- Properties of oils.
- Proper lye and essential oil mixing safety.
- Proper curing, unmolding, cutting and storage.
- Essential soap-making supplies and where to source them.
- How to use a lye calculator to formulate your own inspired recipes at home.
WHAT TO BRING:
You'll be provided with all the protective gear and materials needed for class. We just ask that you bring or wear a long sleeve shirt and closed-toed shoes.
WHAT COMES NEXT:
After purchasing your ticket(s) you’ll receive an email with a class waiver, location details, and additional information to get you ready for class! You’ll be able to reply to the email if you have questions.
MINIMUM AGE:
18 years. We’ll be using strong caustic lye which is designed for use by adults.
TICKETS
Your ticket(s) reserves your seat(s). Tickets purchased through www.BrendaMade.com will be available at the early bird price and with a Soaping Buddies (2 seat package deal ) option available. Tickets purchased through Eventbrite 48 hours before class start will be available at regular price, $175.
ABOUT BRENDA:
I have been crafting natural body care for 10 years and find the process to be a creative and therapeutic journey. Switching from commercial to natural soaps has been beneficial for my skin and well-being. However, I noticed that some naturally labeled soaps were made with synthetic fragrances, which overwhelmed my senses. I set out to create bars that were true to their natural scents and therapeutic. Essential oils can be adaptogenic and work with your nervous system to achieve overall balance in the body. They also smell amazing. I’ve faced some challenges and wins with using solely essential oils. I’ll provide my best advice to help you avoid some costly mistakes and give you the confidence you need to begin your truly natural soap-making journey!

REFUND POLICY
Your ticket reserves your class seat(s). Cancellation requests made at least 7 days in advance of class start are eligible for a partial refund. Requests made less than 7 days prior to the start of class can be rescheduled for a later available class date. No call/no shows are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled.
