About this Event
In this class you will learn how breastfeeding improves the physical health and emotional wellbeing of you and your baby, and why breastfeeding is good for the environment.
This class can be taken anytime during the second half of pregnancy. You are welcome to bring your partner/support person to class with you (free).
We’ll discuss:
- the physiology of lactation and how to increase or decrease your milk supply to meet your baby’s needs without feeling uncomfortably full.
- the technique for hand expression and how to ensure an electric pump is thoroughly emptying your breasts.
- the elements of a good latch, a variety of breastfeeding positions, and how to make sure your baby is getting enough calories.
- some of the common difficulties that breastfeeding parents experience and how to prevent them.
- strategies for combining work and breastfeeding, and how to breastfeed in public in a way that feels comfortable for you.
- how to connect with a lactation consultant once your baby is born, and community resources for breastfeeding parents.
