Moraporvida Contemporary Dance (MPVCD) presents an evening of storytelling, dance and captivating works that features new and old rep from the company.
“Breaking Surface” serves as a double entendre for the evening as the show marks an emergence of the company after 3 years. As well as surfacing as an amzing group of artists, the evening features a collection of thought provoking and entertaining workst hat explore the aspects of the human condition and emotion beyond a surface level.
The collection as a whole dives into an exciting fusion of passion, theater and athleticism.
Dances on the ticket include 2 Premiers entitled “Insomnia” and “Holding Air” from artistic Director Jacob Mora.
“Insomnia” is a piece that carries a dark scoring of music and tableau of movement that explores the many reasons one can stay awake.
“Holding Air” shares an equally powerful set of sounds and quick paced movements that abstractly deal with the importance of breath as power. The need to share and not stay silent, or communicate to sustain life.
The evening also features other rep from the company as well as guest artists and guest performances from the community.
Set in the Historic building of the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble, this evening is a must see.
