Writing Workshop: The Writing’s All In The RewriteLed by Hone Kouka (Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Kahungunu, Kai Tahu)
"You write to communicate to the hearts and minds of others what’s burning inside you, and we edit to let the fire show through the smoke."
Arthur Plotnik
For Tawata Productions, writers are our lifeblood - our heart, conscience and soul.
As part of Breaking Ground 2024, the writing workshop The Writing’s All In The Rewrite, you will have tools shared that will help you better understand the art of re-writing and exercises that help you progress with your writing.
The graft has been done in ‘getting’ your voice onto the page, but now the hard work begins in clearing unwanted debris and allowing your writing to breathe. With writing, there are no limits - the choices that you make on the page, reflect who you are as a writer, where you come from and, most importantly, why you write.
Over 1 x 3 hour writing workshop, The Writing’s All In The Rewrite will share tools to progress your writing journey - and give clarity to your voice as a writer. The workshop will cover: choices; approaches to editing; why edit; tone and style; and what is the difference between tinkering and rewriting?
Led by multi-award winning playwright and screenwriter Hone Kouka, The Writing’s All In The Rewrite is a 3 hour writing workshop taking place as part of the international Indigenous playwrights’ festival Breaking Ground 2024.
