About this Event
I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order. –John Burroughs
Anxiety and stress affect millions of people every year. I guide the community through a relaxation experience in nature to help them relax and reset.
Based on the Japanese practice known as “shinrin-yoku”, forest therapy or forest bathing, is an immersion in nature utilizing the senses.
Holistic benefits of forest therapy include – boosted immunity, reduced stress, reduced inflammation, improved mental health, lower blood pressure, improved sleep and activated parasympathetic nervous system. In addition to these benefits, research has shown that exposure to tree’s phytoncides (an aerosol like essential oil) increases the body’s natural killer cells that fight virus infected cells and boosts anti-cancer proteins.
This forest bathing experience will begin with some light standing yoga, a centering and meditating session utilizing the senses, followed by “invitations” to connect with nature. At the end of our time together, we gather to share our experiences over tea foraged from plants in my garden and "Breakfast with the Trees" (pastries, nuts and fruit). Experience lasts approximately two hours and you must be able to walk approximately one mile and sit on the ground comfortably. Sitting mats will be provided or you can bring your own gardening cushion.
