About this Event
No matter how well your communications plan is written, it will only be as effective as the training and preparation the leaders on your team have received.
This engaging, fast-paced, two-day course lays the foundation for educators and law enforcement in Montgomery County on effective messaging, ensuring everyone operates from the same framework. Whether directly responsible for messaging or part of a leadership team overseeing communications, having a solid plan for crisis situations is crucial—be it a critical incident at a school or a controversy directed at the district. From crafting messages and writing relatable news releases to understanding what and when to post on social media during a crisis, the course builds participants' skills by integrating proven communications theory with practical exercises.
Topics include:
- Run It Like a Newsroom: A Communications Philosophy
- The Forgotten Audience: Internal Communications
- Crisis Communications 101 (includes a case study)
- Social Media Messaging in a Critical Incident
- The Art of the News Release
- Navigating Difficult Media Interview Questions
- Mock News Conference Scenarios
Effective public communication has never been more complex or more important. Obtain time-tested tools to communicate through the inevitable critical incidents from Nelly Miles, Director of Public and Government Affairs for a large state law enforcement agency, so you can contribute to the public messaging when communication matters most.
Training certificates are available upon completion.
