Check out Elena's Bio:
Originally from Northern California, Elena has a diverse background of many different arts and sports including ballet, contemporary/modern, Latin ballroom, and 13 years of competitive gymnastics. In addition to Brazilian Zouk, she also dances samba de gafieira, samba no pé, bachata, forró, salsa, West Coast swing, and more.
She began her Brazilian zouk journey in 2017. From 2017 to 2020 she revived the Brazilian zouk community in Oakland, CA, and hosted classes, socials, and events there until the pandemic. In 2021 she moved to Washington DC and began teaching with District Zouk, the largest Brazilian zouk school in the US. She also travels around the world teaching classes and DJ-ing at Brazilian zouk events.
In 2023 she became the first person in the history of the BZDC Jack & Jill competitions to progress from Novice all the way to the All-Star division. She is a multi-time JnJ champion, including winning the Advanced division at Brazilian Zouk Worlds in 2022 with Bruno Miranda. She is also a BZDC-certified judge.
The nickname “Rhinestone” initially came from her love for sparkly accessories, but she now uses it to describe her fiery and flashy style of dance. She loves to incorporate body neutrality into her teaching so that people of all body types can learn to dance and find their shine as well
