Em São Paulo, em 1980, o jovem operário Tião e sua namorada Maria decidem casar-se ao saber que a moça está grávida. Ao mesmo tempo, eclode um movimento grevista que divide a categoria metalúrgica. Preocupado com o casamento e temendo perder o emprego, Tião fura a greve, entrando em conflito com o pai, um velho militante sindical que passou três anos na cadeia durante o regime militar. Em novembro de 2015, o filme entrou na lista da Associação Brasileira de Críticos de Cinema (Abraccine) dos 100 melhores filmes brasileiros de todos os tempos.
In São Paulo, in 1980, a young factory worker named Tião and his girlfriend Maria decide to get married after discovering she is pregnant. At the same time, a strike movement erupts among metalworkers, causing division within the category. Worried about his upcoming marriage and afraid of losing his job, Tião breaks the strike, leading to conflict with his father—a veteran union activist who had spent three years in Pr*son during the military dictatorship.In November 2015, the film was included in the Brazilian Film Critics Association’s (Abraccine) list of the 100 greatest Brazilian films of all time.
