We’re delighted to present a 30th anniversary screening of Mark Herman’s Brassed Off, a moving and much-loved British comedy-drama.Set in the fictional Yorkshire mining village of Grimley, the film follows the local colliery brass band as they prepare for the National Brass Band Finals while facing the looming closure of their mine. Balancing humour, heartbreak and resilience, it captures a community under pressure with warmth, humanity and remarkable performances from an outstanding ensemble cast.
Led by the late Pete Postlethwaite, a Bristol Old Vic Theatre School alumnus, the film remains a powerful and deeply affecting portrait of working-class life. More than three decades on, Brassed Off still resonates strongly, reflecting both the spirit of its time and the enduring strength of community and music.
Arrive early to access the inaugural Clifton Wine & Drinks Fair, taking place in the Central Arena alongside your pre-film experience. Explore a range of independent producers before heading into one of our covered outdoor cinema spaces.
