Brass and Copper Sleigh Bells:
In this class you will be making brass and/or copper sleigh bells. You get your choice of metal and size of your bell/bells. Using a jewelry saw and stencil, you will cut out the rough shape of the bell. Once the shape is cut, with the help of files and sandpaper, you will smooth out the edges of your piece. Making precise measurements, you will drill two holes in the center of your unformed bell, this will be a means to hang it. Next, we will visit the soldering station and anneal the metal with a torch. You will shape your bell using a hammer and doming block. It may seem tedious, but you will be annealing and doming until your bell is fully shaped. Finally, you will thread a wire or ribbon through the holes that you drilled and insert a ball bearing into you bell. Bend the tongs of the bell to encase the ball and let sleigh bells ring!
