About this Event

The 2024 Branscombe House Artist-in-Residence, Peisen Ding, is launching their community-based art project called “(Be) Coming Home”. The title has dual meanings: “Becoming Home” signifies Peisen’s personal journey of finding belonging as a queer immigrant from China; “Coming Home” shows an invitation to the public to engage with the project at the Branscombe House, finding a sense of home. Throughout 2024, the artist will invite local residents to participate as collaborators to tell their definitions of home and co-create a home-like installation through various activities, aiming to build a public sense of an inclusive, shared, and caring community.

This art workshop series is the first part of the residency's public program for Richmond residents and visitors. It consists of workshops, such as drawing, painting, collage, and crafting. Through different art activities, participants will explore various meanings of home with fun prompts and techniques that are easy to pick up!

This workshop series is free to participate and runs during the weekends from March to July. Specific dates are March 30th, April 13th, April 27th, May 4th & 5th, May 11th, May 25th, June 8th & 9th, June 22nd, July 20th & 21st. You will need to register the particular date(s) that you'd like to participate via Eventbrite.

Please note most of the workshops are for adults. The workshops on May 4th & 5th are designed for youth to celebrate BC Youth Week. The ones on June 8th & 9th are part of Doors Open Richmond. July 20th & 21st are to celebrate a pride Summer with LGBTQIA2S+ community members in Richmond.

Instructions can be offered in both English and Mandarin. The venue is wheelchair accessible.
